WestChase Building II Atrium

Performed an existing conditions assessment on a three-story atrium.

The Approach

We were retained by the client to perform a conditions assessment on an existing three-story atrium within a office building.  The status of the atrium’s smoke control system was unknown, including both its operational readiness as well as overall design.  Two site-surveys were conducted in order to document the existing conditions, including provided exhaust capacity, makeup air, atrium separation, and methods of operation.  Operationally testing was then performed in order to verify that actual flow capacities and operations were as intended based on the engineered documents of record.

Benefit to the Team

Our evaluation determined several deficiencies that needed to be corrected for this atrium space.  Several of these were minor and easily corrected, while others lead to a more long-term corrective action being put into place.
